12-year-old Shinda, a whirlwind of energy and mischief, was driving his father Gopi crazy. Living in Canada, Gopi felt increasingly disconnected from his son, whose pranks and disregard for rules were a constant source of frustration. In a desperate attempt to instill discipline, Gopi hatches a plan: a trip to his childhood village in Punjab, India.
Shinda, thrilled at the prospect of an adventure, readily agrees. However, upon landing in India, the initial excitement wears thin. Gone are the video games and endless fast food. Gopi exposes Shinda to a simpler life – helping with chores on their ancestral farm, attending the local school, and navigating the bustling village life. Shinda finds it all terribly backward and clashes with his father at every turn.
Meanwhile, Gopi struggles to connect with his own past. He grapples with unresolved issues with his own father, a strict and traditional man. As Shinda interacts with the extended family, particularly his wise grandfather, he starts to understand Gopi’s perspective. He witnesses a different side of his father – playful, caring, and deeply rooted in his heritage.
Through a series of hilarious misadventures – from dealing with stubborn cows to getting lost in the bustling market – a bond begins to form between father and son. Shinda learns valuable lessons about respect, family, and the importance of cultural heritage. Gopi, in turn, rediscovers the joy of fatherhood and the importance of communication.
The film reaches its climax when Shinda, determined to prove himself, accidentally creates a big mess in the village. Together, father and son work to rectify their mistake, and in doing so, earn the respect of the community.
By the end of their Indian adventure, Shinda and Gopi return to Canada with a newfound understanding and appreciation for each other. Shinda embraces some of his cultural roots, and Gopi learns to loosen up and see the world through his son’s eyes. “Shinda Shinda No Papa” is a heartwarming story about the complexities of father-son relationships, cultural clashes, and the power of family.
